Franchising has been part of Shira Miller's professional and personal life for decades.
Today, Shira serves as Chief Communications Officer of National DCP, the $3 billion supply chain management cooperative serving Dunkin' franchisees. In that role, she works within a complex franchise ecosystem where alignment, communication, relationships, change management, and strong leadership directly affect business results across 10,000 restaurant locations.
Earlier in her career, Shira worked at Days Inns of America, collaborating with franchisees across the country on communications, community outreach, and crisis response. As the owner of an award-winning communications firm, she advised franchise and franchise-related brands including Carvel Ice Cream and Cinnabon during the early days of what became FOCUS Brands, as well as Synthetic Turf International and SYNLawn. Her recent franchise speaking engagements have included Life’s Food, the Five Guys franchisee for the Carolinas and East Tennessee, Grand Hyatt, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and HEI Hotels + Resorts.
And her understanding of franchising is personal.
Shira grew up working in her family's restaurant business, Groucho's Deli, founded by her grandfather in Columbia, South Carolina in 1941. Her younger brother later grew Groucho's through franchising to 35+ units across the Southeast, giving Shira a firsthand view of what it takes to successfully expand a family business through franchising while protecting what makes it special.
That combination gives Shira a perspective few leadership speakers can offer: she understands franchising from the corporate, franchisee, entrepreneurial, and family-business sides of the equation.
